In two lots, the Federal Roads Office, FEDRO, has awarded two main business applications regarding road works and traffic management for Swiss roads until towards the end of 2024. Sopra Steria has been chosen for the second lot that comprises the support, the maintenance and further development of the business applications. The contract will last for the next four years with a possible extension by another four years.
According to FEDRO, traffic management comprises all measures to ensure that the prevailing traffic flows as smoothly, quietly, trouble-free, with low emissions and safely as possible. FEDRO explains that these systems have long been used in tunnels or on open stretches of road throughout Switzerland, for example in the form of an alternating text display. The systems and installations on the roads have an operation time of 10 to 20 years. Here, one is "pretty much in the middle of implementation", as FEDRO has been the operator of the national roads since 2008.
